Just thought I'd pass this link to you for next semester. My daughter just started
here at Masters School of Arts this past semester and we have LOVED it. It is a very
loving, Christ-centered art school for homeschoolers on Sunnyside Rd. in Happy
Valley/ Clackamas. It's also very affordable. We've enjoyed dance, choir, drawing,
painting etc.. and this semster will include animation, drama and colored pencil.
Evie Fishkin, the Director, has a book coming out called, "I'm not stupid, just
right-brained." She explains that non-artsy kids who may grow up to be accountants,
still very much benefit from developing right-brain functions..as God gave us 2
halves for a reason! On link below, you can learn more and see some of the work done
by these kids..

This community center is newer, brighter and cleaner than many others around
Portland. Their art classes are wonderfully organized yet liberating for young ones.
What an inviting place for a child to discover new textures and explore their
creative yearnings!

While the kids are out of school, Art School is IN SESSION. Jennifer Wells Design,
DIY Lounge and a wide variety of local artist/teachers are teaming up to offer an
amazingly comprehensive art program for kids age 6-12! This camp operates as three
art workshops in one dynamic day. Children participate in unique art and music
projects, art history education, and cultural diversity, while gaining insight into
themselves and the world around them.

~
I just wanted to share what a great experience my daughter recently had
participating in NW Youth  Theater.
My daughter has enjoyed performing in dance recitals, so I thought she might enjoy
doing musical dance theater.  I have fond memories myself of doing The Sound of
Music in 2nd grade and The Wizard of Oz in 6th grade at my elementary school, and I
have mourned the loss of theater programs at the elementary school level.  I was
thrilled when I learned that NW Youth Theater was starting up again so close to
home.  I particularly liked this quote on their website:
”Children's Theatre is a great educational feature. The time ought to come when a
child's theatre will be a part of every public school in the land.”
Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)
Whenever I had asked my daughter about acting classes, she was always very hesitant
which surprised me because of her love for dance performing.  She expressed that she
was very nervous about having to memorize and deliver speaking lines.  I encouraged
her to just try the NW Youth Theater to see if she liked it or not.  We just
finished the first session of ten weeks, and she can’t wait to do it again!
Here is what I like about the program as a parent:
•        It’s affordable at only $10.00 a session approximately (if all paid up front)
which is comparable to the cost of Hillsboro Parks and Recreation classes.
•        The children don’t have to audition for parts, so they can participate without
feeling left out or feeling like they don’t have a talent for musical theater.
•        They can develop confidence in expressing themselves in front of others in a fun,
supportive, and creative environment.  Many children have the opportunity to have a
speaking part.
•        It gives them a chance to explore their abilities and talents that they might not
have known they had.
•        They meet other children from a young age in the community who might share common
interests with them.
•        The co-directors both worked with the children with love, enthusiasm and
professionalism.
•        The content of the shows chosen are very child appropriate.
•        And one of the parts I liked best is that the performance was truly enjoyable to
watch yet short enough (half an hour) to make it still enjoyable to watch!
Jennifer, Hillsboro Mom of 4
