Ready for a day on the town!
Portland, OR |
Cooper Spur Tubing
A beautiful day on Mount Hood brings lots
of people outdoors, so perhaps this was just a busy day. Children must be 42
inches to ride the tubes at Cooper Spur, so my two year old was left with the
grandparents. Unless you are 10 years of age or older, there is one hill for
tubing. Only one rider allowed on a tube at a time, so pretty much every single
ride down the hill was the same. If you are looking to spend more than just a
couple hours of tubing, I would not recommend Cooper Spur.

Grandma Leeths Restaurant
10122 SW Park Way
Portland 97225
Grandma Leeth's is amazing! It is a
restaurant with adult and kid food that has an enclosed "performance area" where
children 2-9 are completely engaged with art projects, games, story time etc.
Your kids can eat their food within the performance area or with you at the
table and there are large viewing windows so that you can see what the kids are
doing from any pointin the restaurant. The food is not your typical deep-fried
offering for but fresh & healthy alternatives for both adults and kids. There
is a fee for the performance area but for me, it is reasonable and well worth it
to be able to sit with my friends and talk and enjoy adult food while the kids
are having a ball. My kids love Grandma Leeth's.

Red Robin Restaurant
I agree, Red Robin does an excellent job
with their staff and family friendly atmosphere... One of the few places that I
don't get stressed when my kids are being kids! Kudos for tasty food and great
service!

Myles Away
Cafe and Playhouse
15986 SW Tualatin Sherwood Rd.
Sherwood OR 97140
Since the closing of Toney Balony's in
Wilsonville, we were in need of a kid-friendly coffee house in this area of
town. Myles Away Cafe and Playhouse has filled the void. They have a play area
with different options for all young ages (train table, kitchen area, climbers,
books...) and food for the kiddos. Although small, it's a great little indoor
play area for young kids. However, watch your youngsters carefully since the
whole cafe is open, kids can run right out the door if you're not paying
attention. There is a $2 play fee.
~Mama B, Wilsonville Mom to two (ages 2 1/2 and one on the way!)
Myles Away is awesome and well
worth the drive. Not only did my kids have a great time playing but I had a
great relaxing lunch and a wonderful espresso. There is so much to do there from
their wooden playhouse, train table, climbing area and nice kitchen. My kids
could have payed for hours. We have a been a number of times and everytime there
is a new thing to do. Love it.
~Erika, SW Portland Mom of 2 (age 3 and 1)
This is absolutely THE BEST kid-friendly cafe. When you
walk in the door, it's obvious that the owners have small children themselves.
They have the biggest and best kid-friendly play area that I've seen in any
cafe, and it's oh-so-easy to monitor your little tykes while sipping a mocha.
If you spend $10 on food, or if you come during happy hour, playtime is even
free! There are things to climb on, a large pretend-kitchen area, a great cedar
playhouse, books, baby activities and more. The menu is great, too, with LOTS
of LOW-PRICE healthy menu options for moms, and the BIGGEST selection of kids'
food I've seen at a place like this, all at great prices, and a lot at REALLY
great prices on the perfect kid snack food, at around a dollar or less, for
banana slices, apples with peanut butter, carrot sticks, cheese cubes, cheerios
and more. There's even a great selection of kids' cafe drinks, like steamers
and hot chocolate. Anti-bacterial lotion is provided, and the owner can
regularly be seen cleaning up & sanitizing the play area. And it's easy to
find, right near Albertsons in Sherwood, off of 99. Every parent with kids from
birth to age 5 ought to check out Myles Away. I was highly impressed. Better
menu & play area than Toney Baloney's and much better prices than Peanut Butter
and Ellie's!! See you there!!!

Longboard Louie's
Restaurant
Healthy Mexican Food
62080 Dean Swift road
1254 NW Galveston Ave
Fresh handmade daily, very good prices.
Very kid friendly and casual. Surf themed and fun for all ages.
~Kathi, Bend Mom of 2
I have to say that while Mt
Scott's indoor play time is the right price (only $1 per child) it isn't the
most fun. The park is actually on their underground roller rink, there are a few
windows along one edge but they're covered in bars, you have to take the toys
from their storage area and bring them to the play area yourself, and there
isn't any padding to cover the hardwood roller rink. It'd be nicer if they
brought out the tumbling mats they use for their other kid activities and had
the play time in the very well lit upstairs gym.

NW Kids Club Indoor Park
1810 Freeway Ct. NE,
Suite 150 Salem, OR
NW Kids Club is the Ultimate Indoor
Playground for children 6 months to 7 years of age. They have 7,000 sq. ft. of
fun just for the little ones. My boys love it and never get bored. They have
party rooms and a snack bar. Check them out if you are wondering what to do in
Salem.

JJ Jump Playpark
Great for kids a little too old or big for
Community Center indoor parks. Great exercise and endless fun for kids, some
adults like it too. 2 boys said that the Clackamas location was more fun
but I sure couldn't tell the difference

The High Desert Museum
59800 S. Highway 97
Bend, OR 97702
541.382.4754
We LOVE the high desert museum.
They have a great interactive "old west" village with actors and actresses that
portray living in the early 1900's. Complete with working stoves, horse ranch
and saw mill. They have tons of wild animals indoors and outdoors. Inside,
don't miss the Old West "walk-through". You can walk through time from the
Indians to the Oregon Trail to mining for gold. This museum is such a
treasure. We never miss it when we visit Sunriver or Bend.

Dentists
Dr. Michelle Crocker
324 S.E. 9th Ave. Ste. C
Hillsboro, OR
(503) 615-8832
She is wonderful!! My six year old
daughter in the past has had to have Versed(oral sedation) to get her fillings
done. Dr. Crocker took the extra time and she got her first filling with just
the novocaine! I'm pleased and would recommend her to anyone with small
children. Her associates also are very nice and they take time to explain
things to your children so they understand. Highly recommend!

Downtown Dental
Dr. Lance Bailey and Dr. Jessica Adams
511 SW 10th Ave Suite 1114
Portland OR 97204
I am a mom of two, whom used to work in
the Dental field. I know how important finding a great dentist who is also great
with kids can be. Dr. Bailey has a ton of experience with children, thus he has
four of his own, and he is very patient and all about pain free dentistry for
both his young and old clients. His staff goes above and beyond to make both
your visit as a parent or patient and your child's the best it should be!

Alma Midwifery
1608 SE Ankeny Street
Portland, OR 97214
I had my first child in a hospital with a
doctor, and it was an awful experience. My second child--now 4 years old--was
born in a hospital with a nurse midwife. I had a completely natural birth that
was hampered by a hospital atmosphere. After many phones calls and research, I
visited Alma Midwifery. Laura Erickson, the founder of Alma Midwifery, is truly
an amazing person! Laura has more than 20 years experience as a midwife (she
also was the clinical director and supervising midwife at Birthingway College of
Midwifery), and she is so down-to-earth and compassionate. You have a choice of
a home-birth or a birth in one of the beautiful, yet homey rooms in the birth
center which is a renovated old Victorian style house in a wonderful part of
southeast Portland. Each prenatal appointment is very laid-back and comfortable,
yet very knowledgable. I had 3 midwives throughout my pregnancy, and all 3 were
present at my delivery. The best part during labor was the big tub, and they
were willing to do a water birth if I wanted. I delivered my son on the bed with
my husband, mother (used to be a midwife), and 2 children present. It was an
amazing birth--totally noninvasive and supportive of our wishes and needs. One
thing about Laura--she knows her limitations. They are less than 5 minutes from
a major hospital and ready to transport if necessary. I was ready to go home
just 5 hours after giving birth to my almost 10 pound baby! I really recommend
Alma Midwifery.
Anne, Tualatin Mom to 3 (11, 4, 4 mos)
The last ten months of care through Alma
Midwifery have made me realize how
great health care can be. The wonderful midwives at Alma combine
outstanding professionalism and knowledge with respect and insight about the
birth process. The birth center is a beautiful and comforting place that
offers prenatal and postpartum care, gorgeous birthing rooms, prenatal yoga,
parenting meetings, and even a weekly moms' group.
At 39 weeks my midwife suspected that my baby was breech and went with me to
have an ultrasound done. Her suspicions were confirmed and she tried
immediate intervention with the external version procedure. When this was
not successful she referred me to a chiropractor to see if adjustment might
help. Since my baby was still determined to come out feet first, my wise
midwife suggested a Cesarean Birth for my and my baby's safety. I felt well
cared for and respected my midwife's recommendation on this point. She
scheduled me a meeting with an OB she was familiar with... and even came to
the birth. Thanks to my fabulous midwife I had an ecstatic Cesarean Birth,
with my midwife talking me through the procedure as if I was having a
vaginal birth. It was the most beautiful and perfect experience that
brought my beautiful baby boy into this world beyond the womb.
Additionally, the postpartum support has been wonderful. My husband, baby
and I have all looked forward to our visits like visits with old friends...
After trying a traditional pediatrician, I have really come to appreciate
how much all the midwives at Alma love and care for babies!

I was referred to Dr H around 13 years ago
from a friend and all my family loves her. When you first meet her she greets
you with this kind smile and makes your kids feel at ease. If you need to speak
with her she is very accesible which I really appreciated when my twins were in
and out of the hospital.I would recommend her to my closests family and friends.

This place is fabulous. The owner is
fantastic and very fair when you sell clothing. She has a good eye for the cute

Denim and Frills Resale
I have been going to Denim and Frills now
for about 8 years. I have always liked the clean and friendly atmosphere. Some
prices seem a bit high for used items, but none the less a great place to find
gently used items.
