What do you like most about living in Oregon with
children?
I have grown up in Oregon and could never
imagine having a family and raising my children anywhere else. We have such a
variety of fun opportunities to do with our 2 little ones. The ocean is only an
hour and a half away, and in the opposite direction the mountain is, too! We
have gorgeous waterfalls and amazingly beautiful parks all around us. There are
so many places to go camping and with that, exploring and adventuring and great
lakes! I think that my most favorite part of raising my family here in Oregon
is that we have all 4 seasons.
What is your favorite Oregon place/outing for
families?
We love to go down to
Saturday Market. There are just so many great things to see down there.
Different types of vendor booths and a great variety of yummy foods. We also
LOVE the Children's Museum.
How did you get started in your business?
There was another mommy in my yahoo mommies group that had a link to her
website, and I went to check it out. When I saw the kits I was hooked. I
requested information immediately and then had the opportunity to talk with
her about the business.
What do you enjoy most about your business?
I love that I am offering people so much
more than a product. The kits encourage us to spend quality time with our
children and share the amazing wonder of our imaginations. With that, we get to
watch our children's minds grow and I just LOVE that. There truly is nothing
more wonderful than seeing excitement and wonder in your babies' eyes.
That is what I get to see when I do crafty things with my son.
Any tips on how to balance work and family life?
For me it's very easy. I think what makes it work so well for me is the
support I have from my husband. I don't know what I would do without him. I do
my online work when the kiddos are napping and then sometimes when everyone goes
to bed at night. I work my parties in after dinnertime when daddy can sit down
and play with our children, or on weekends during naptime. When I need to work
on a new kit my husband often joins in with me and we have a blast! I honestly
think that having a great support team is key.
How does/can this business serve other Oregon moms?
As far as serving other
Oregon moms, this business can work in 2 ways. First, I would say that being an
independent consultant for Big Yellow Box (BYB) means that YOU are your own
boss. YOU make your own hours, and set your own schedule. YOU chose when you
can work and how much you can work. What could be better than that? Being part
of company that's main goal is for you to be able to share meaningful, creative,
experiences with your family, your community and all those around you, while at
the same time earning an income, to me is just the best of them all. Second,
would be for those who are not necessarily interested in becoming a consultant
but are looking for new and fun things to do with their families. Hosting a Big
Yellow Box party means free kits for you, which means tons more fun, and also
helping to introduce people to the new, great world of Crayola. It most
certainly isn't just about crayons and markers anymore!
